A few Key Reasons and ways to get involved
The data for colon cancer incidence rates per 100k population across England and Wales holds steady
for those aged 50+ but for under 50 year olds, significant year on year increases are mostly observed.
Taking data from The International Agency for Research on Cancer

Regardless of whether a patient, career or broader member of the public please take some time to help and
get involved. Hopefully what you'll have seen here is not simply an older persons disease or one caused knowingly.
It can affect anyone and although low, numbers are rising the the impact devistating.
Each year there are deaths of otherwise healthy people that could be avoidable with better testing
guidance, support and information. We are awlking into a ticking time bomb, It is simply not clear what
the underlying risk factors are for this cancer type. How can we bring our children up safely without this knowledge.
We lag behind as a nation in out treatment and healthcare for this. Frontline staff are as amazing but need to
be given the right supoort in terms of resource, tools and more broadly healthcare framework from the senior level.
-
In light of data that shows
clear trends stretching back decades
We should be more active in early testing and guidance should be updated to reflect this.
If you have any symptoms be careful not to too readily accept a response of other causes.
Maybe a check is worthwhile to avoid potential miss-diagnosis. If you
do not have any symptoms, a test every so often is still much cheaper vs the consequences of
note testing. Remember not everyone has symptoms and when caught late like this that really is
no cure for cancer.
-
There needs to be a better understanding and public knowledge of what the risk factors are here.
Studies of ultra processed foods for example.
The supposedly healthy low fat viatmin enriched food we grew up with from the 80s
now do not look so healthy. However what should we have and how. I.e. if it's generally
whole foods then could be difficult given the availability, cost off and current supermarket
commercial model.
-
Despite prior
government commitments we are not on track for these targets.
Despite comparing poorly against
other developed countries
There are a number of ways to get involved. Lobby local concellors, MPs, sign petitions. Consider
voting with your feet!
