End of life planning

Something That I started from diagnosis and original traffic incident and have been continuing for the last 12 months . This is just my experiences so far. Of course time will tell to the degree these things were effective.

It's very difficult to do, I know. That said given such a diagnosis, more important than ever given the people left behind and given it's likely not much end of life things might have been put into place before.

Prior to Feb-23 I hadn't made any end of life preparations. It's something my wife had said to me occassionally but I'd brushed it off, why worry just now. I was extremely healthy 44 years old and nothing was likely to happen to me for some time. At that stage I didn't have a will and all the finances were in my name etc.. I could have literally died on 6th Feb 2023 leaving my wife in a mess, that thought dawned on me quite soon after. Soon after the original traffic incident during February I started to hand over financial details and document from the hospital bed. This type of end planning I found practical, wasn't sensitive difficult and just something which made sense to do at that juncture. Plus first and foremost. In the early days following the initial road incident I undertook the following financial actions, broadly in this order. With hindsight I wish I'd have made more inroads into councelling and well being earlier. I'd left it and then was left trying to play catch up when I needed it most. For me this was a couple of months post diagnosis, where I was largely immobile, had to have food in liquid form , couldn't talk much due to jaws being wired shut and had gone really into despair. It can take alot for some of us depending on our threhold etc.. but we all have our breaking point and June 2023 was mine.
