Support Groups
Hi, please see below for different support groups. In here since diagnosis I've included informational posts
for both patients and broader public awareness. It also hopefully provides some insights into what it is is like
living with this chronic disease.
-
Bowel Cancer UK - An informative site about bowel cancer in general.
-
Facebook Breaking BRAF - A group of UK-based BRAF
colorectal cancer sufferers & carers who are determined to bring BRAF to the front of researchers & oncologists minds.
Ultimately aiming to encourage drug companies & researchers to bring BRAF-specific drug trials to the UK
; but also feel there is a need for peer to peer discussion for those of us with BRAF in our lives.
This is a space to keep up to date, as well as share any thoughts you have, share & ask questions about
news articles & research you’ve seen, & gain information from others going through a similar journey
-
Colon Town - A site containing over 100 facebook support groups, very informative and
a detailed source for support.
-
Always Hope - A site containing
a wealth of information on supplementary measures to help slows cancer growth. Ran by a very experienced and inspirational
lady Linda Sinclair who is a fountain of knowledge.
-
Information on benefits claims
- Financial pressure another stress that might to some degree be aleviated or eased by social support.
Also regardless of the financial
angle, some of these are enablers to a better degree of independence.
As a cancer suffer you may be entitled to PIP payments including motability.
I found going via a local hospice or Macmillans for the purpose of claiming easier than calling DWP
directly. Plus the motability car was easier to drive than my existing car and gave me more
independence. Also consider whether you are elibigible for a blue badge and other disbled benefits.
I was, a blue badge can be applied for via your local council, the process can take several weeks
and so worth submitting the claim sooner rather than later where possible.

Pastoral support - Somewhat regardless of whether religious or not, I think this support can be very useful spiritually
when nearing end of life. your local church services should have informatino on support available.
