Things I've found useful through my journey since cancer diagnosis
Hi, please see below a list of things I've found useful through my journey, some of which I wish I'd have
known earlier.
Natural Path
- Given the complexities of cancer, I found it important to have a holistic approach which takes into
account the cancer treatment, exercise, well being and dietary aspects. I've attached a link to one I
found very good, a lady called Heidi Kussman. Finally
Councelling was very important
for me and even more so as my diagnosis moved to terminal.
-
Well being - Vitally important and in my opinion almost as important as the treatment itself.
Often overllooked in the early stages, I was so focused on the treatment and the doing, not
spending any time on the qualtative aspects and emotional well being.
- Mind matters podcasts - Excellent podcasts freely availavle from one of my councellors.
various on there including sleep meditation
-
Local hospices - The bredth of services available goes well beyond purely later life care.
They can help with benefits claims, local support, bounce back care and run various groups providing support
on treatments, CBT based courses.
-
Social Prescribers
- A service that can be obtained via referal from your local GP. They will help co-ordinate your
well being care. Includes local councellors and equipment to help make home adjustments to make getting around the
house easier
-
Exercise - Key in my view to help whilst on treatment, help mobilise post surgery etc...
- Mind matters podcasts
I think it s acase of doing what you can when you can and making is fun where possible. A link attached may inspire you. In that for a period
I was able to work around quite alot of injuries and still do some actvitiies I loved
-
Rebounder -A mini trampoline, very good fun and accessible. I found a good fun to tailor workouts ranging from tempo to recovery from surgery.
-
HIIT workouts
HIIT workouts, not just fun but good for all round body strangth and can be done anywhere. I took a matt to Tokyo and was able to do low impact session
in a rather confind space!
-
Facebook groups - There's a wealth of support groups on facebook. worth starting by searching the groups and joining
some with a number of members. Often there'll be support groupds by cancer types and treatment types.
